Celebrating the life of
Walter Lee Stanford, Sr
July 18, 1943 - February 14, 2025

Walter Lee Stanford Sr., beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2025, surrounded by family and loved ones. He lived a full and meaningful life, leaving behind a legacy of love, adventure, and service.
Born on July 18, 1943, to Janet Eubanks Stanford and Walter Elmer Stanford, Walter grew up on Tybee Island, Georgia, where he developed a deep love for the outdoors and the ocean. Whether boating, fishing, or simply enjoying the coastal beauty, the sea always held a special place in his heart.
A proud veteran, Walter served in the United States Army before embarking on a career in telecommunications. He also earned his captain’s license with the U.S. Coast Guard, further demonstrating his passion for the water and his adventurous spirit.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Janet Sandra Stanford Bass; and his children, Allan F. Parker Stanford, Christina Stanford, and Laura Stanford Schaffner. He is survived by his sister, Bonnie Stanford Carter; his children, Walter Lee Stanford Jr., Jonathan Eubanks Stanford, Joe Sauls III, and Amanda Stanford LeBlanc; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom he cherished deeply.
Walter’s warmth, wisdom, and love of life will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, the waves of the ocean he loved so dearly, and the many stories of a life well-lived.
A visitation will take place at our Fox & Weeks Island's Chapel Wednesday, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, a Graveside service will be held at Greenwich Cemetery in Savannah, GA, Thursday at 2:00 PM.
Rest In Peace, Grandpa. Wish I had made it more of a priority to come visit sooner.
